December Documented Album- Inside Pages

Happy holidays friends, I hope you are having a fabulous time celebrating this special time of year with family & friends? I know I am & have been taking tons of photos which I have added to my December Documented album! I realise many of you might have completed your albums already but I am hoping mine might still inspire those of you from the Southern Hemisphere who received their kits a little later than our Northern Hemisphere friends & those of you still looking for a few ideas to complete yours.

With things quietening down a little today I am finally be able to share some of my D.D spreads with you. Living in South Africa means we have Christmas in Summer which can be tricky to scrap when using gorgeous, winter inspired products. I found by working with the kit palettes closely & making the photos black & white, I was able to successfully combine our beach & summer Christmas photos with products from the December Documented kit & November 2015 kits.

I began the first page with the story of Christmas. A deep meaningful explanation of why we believe what we believe. To fit more text into the space allowed without compromising the legibility, I set it up like a magazine article. Kim Watson+Dec Documented+HKC02

My next page is an enlarged photo of my fireplace & mantel. I attached the alphas on the outside of the pocket to make sure I could reposition easily if I found they were crooked (which they were LOL). My 4th spread covers x2 subjects with photos. To separate them I included a journaling tag acting like a file divider. The inclusion of red stripes, visually ties both sides together. Kim Watson+Dec Documented+HKC12

For this spread, I decided to scrap the left side as if it was a mini scrapbook page. Keeping the colors fairly neutral with pops of color from the Santa hats in the photos, ties the page with the mini page on the right side. Kim Watson+Dec Documented+HKC10

Paper Pieced embellishments for Christmas layouts.

Hi friends...Kim Watson here. Can you believe it is the 4 days before Christmas?? I love ‪#‎Christmas‬ time...it has to be one of my most favorite times of the year. I love the message of hope & love that Christmas brings, I love our family traditions, I love that the celebration of this special time brings families all over the world together. Today my page is about exactly that. Remembering the Merry ‪#‎Memories‬ of being together.

Merry Memories by Kim Watson

Cutting, snipping & layering circles made these flowers so easy to make. The red flower got x2 holly leaves to finish it off...& the gold flower, a circle of pleated gold washi tape. Both so different & perfect for my page.

With the Christmas spirit heavy in the air & jingle bells playing in just about every store you walk into…I am excited to share with you, another Christmas layout. For me, this page is a celebration of Christmas, & why this time of year is so special to me & my family!

To start, I splattered some gorgeous metallic gold mist from Heidi Swapp, onto the white background mimicking falling snow. You can find it in the November Hip Kit Club color kit. Then using some of the Hip Kit Club free November cut files, designed by Ashley Horton, I cut out x4 large patterned paper trees. Pop dots in places, makes them nice & 3D.

So I encourage you to try your hand at paper piecing, it is an eye-catching & effective way to embellish those holiday themed pages.

Countdown Calendar & FREE Template!

With the festive season in full swing, jingle bells in the air and the craziness of holiday activities do you find yourself needing a reminder of how many days are left until Christmas?

With my to-do list, I sure do… hahaha, so I created this fun calendar helping me count down the days until the 25th December. My children are already negotiating who gets to change the tags each day, especially as they get to grab a piece of candy for doing so (bribery can be a good motivator… oops did I really say that?) I love that it is fun and funky enough to sit on my mantel with our other Christmas decor.

Here is the result: a super cute Countdown Calendar made with the uber cute and thoroughly festive Wish Season collection.

Using the ‘Snowed In’ patterned paper and a PDF template I created, I cut out and folded first the box, then the drawer and the backing board. By folding a little step in the backing board it acts as a ledge, stopping the count down tags from slipping off.

The front of the drawer is decorated with ephemera. Behind it, adhered to the top of the box, is a selection of little trees and a deer charm, all found in the Wish Season collection. Together they create a sweet little wintery scene.

The little drawer keeps your 25 Countdown Tags all neat and tidy when you aren’t using them.

The ease at which you can put these tags together will surprise you. Start by cutting a mixture of tag bases 2.25″x 3.75″ and decorate, it’s as easy as that!!

Supplies you will need to complete the tags:

6×6 paper pad

Various puffy stickers
Silver foil
Buttons
Mini attacher

Handmade tree Ornaments #4- Cornflour Clay Ornaments

As I mentioned the other day...I decided to make all my tree ornaments this year because my color theme & Christmas decor is so totally different from anything else I have done before & wonder of all wonders I actually got myself organised enough to take photos of my creative process.

Here is no. 4: (Scandinavian style)

#4 handmade cornflour clay ornaments!

Supplies:

Cornflour
White School glue
Mixture of letter stamps
Motif stamps or wood veneer
Straw to make a threading hole
Cookie cutters
Decorative twine for hanging

Measure out glue & cornflour using the ratio 2:1
Mix well together in an old dish. It will be super sticky.
Once mixed, tip out and knead well with extra cornflour to coat your hands.
Roll out to desired thickness.
You have to work quickly not to obtain well defined imprints.
Push doily or doily stamp into clay, making a sharp impression.
Using cookies cutters, cut into a variety of shapes.
Use a drinking straw to make a threading hole at the top of the shape.
Using letter stamps & motifs decorate shapes.
Allow to air try for 24 hours.
Take glass sand paper smooth off any rough edges, thread with twine & hang.
