Today I am excited to say that today a bunch of creative, fun gals from the industry who have projects included in the mag are blog hopping & sharing a bit about the pages they had published. I am especially thrilled that a bunch of them were the designers who's pages I was fortunate enough to have included in the article I wrote 'Collage Whimsy'. I was so happy how it turned out but alas you'll have to buy the issue to read it LOL.

The great news is that Paper Crafts/ Creating Keepsakes magazine are going to continue printing special subject mags next year...so watch the news for up & coming issues.

I was blessed to have a selection of pages published in this one.
Here are a few sneaks:

Stretch your sketch beyond 12x12"

I was asked to design a page for the recent CK special issue: Simple Scrapbooking. My page was to be based in some way on a lovely page published in a previous issue.

Creative Girl by Creating Keepsakes.
(As seen in the Creating Keepsakes Simple Scrapbooking 2012 issue.  Published with prior permission from the Creative Crafts Group.)

Junking on Saturdays by Kim Watson
This page was my interpretation. I used not only the over all design but elements from the original page too.
(As seen in the Creating Keepsakes Simple Scrapbooking 2012 issue.  Published with prior permission from the Creative Crafts Group.)

To make my life easier, I created a 12x12 sketch for myself to follow.  12x12" sketch created for Junking on Saturdays by Kim Watson

I loved the sketch so much that used it again, & interpreted it into a double 17x11" page. Again I used the overall design, increasing the left hand photo size & adding an extra one on the right side, then filled in the 'gaps' with pretty embellishments.

Sunset Beach by Kim Watson
(All supplies from The Summer Soul Collection from fancy pants Designs.)

We all have files of sketches in our stash... I encourage you to do what I did & relook them. You'll be surprised by how versatile them are.

Happy Monday!

Oh-lala! + new Simple issue from CK is out!

Have you heard? Creating Keepsakes has a brand new issue that hit the news-stands this week! It is called: SIMPLE SCRAPBOOKS

It is filled with more that 400 super ideas to simplify your scrapbooking process. I just know you are going to LOVE it!
By the way..fans of the former Simple magazine will notice that this special issue’s title is the same, and although there are similarities in the style of layouts and tips, this issue is more of a presentation of the concept of simple scrapbooking than revisiting the magazine Simple Scrapbooks.

To see the similarities and differences, get a sneak peek of this issue on the CK website, and see below for an idea of the content. I created this mini album for the issue using only the following supplies:
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Trimmer
  • Cardstock
  • Adhesive
  • 6x6 paper pad ( I used one from October Afternoon)

Like the title on the front & looking for a FREEBIE? Well go to the Creating Keepsakes website for some free downloads of ALL the hand drawn titles I used in the album :

NOW for the great news!!  The fab people over at Creating Keepsakes have given me one of these amazing issues to giveaway here on my blog. All you have to do is leave me a comment  by 9:00 am (MDT) Monday, April 30, telling me what you are hoping to find in this issue.

For more opportunities to win copies of this amazing issue, hop on over to the blogs of the talented ladies mentioned below, in turn their blogs will also have a list, that means x15 chances to win!

CK layouts to share + CHA

There is so much going on in my life right now...but business aside I was dying to blog, so I'll get right to it.

I wanted to share a couple of the page that have been published in CK...

This page was for Erin Weed's article where she explores adding calendars to your scrapbook pages. I created this calender template & used Lawn Fawn stamps to embellish it. See here for a :FREEBIE DOWNLOAD: of the template.

I designed this page for Cindy Tobey's article, 'That's Entertainment', using You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan DVD cover for my inspiration. I Used the title (obviously LOL) & even recreated the faded vibe to match the cover design. Have you ever tried using something from your DVD collection to jump start a scrapbook page?

This page I created for Deena Wuest's (now Boese... pronounced 'Bays') article, 'Hey It's Hybrid'. I created the 'BOY' banner in Photoshop, then printed & cut it out of heavy cardstock. See here for a :FREEBIE DOWNLOAD: of the banner in a PSD format.
