Create an oversized DIY Fringe Butterfly accent!

Starting with the cut file, but keeping in mind it would dominate a big portion of the layout, I started arranging things around the page. Tilting the butterfly to the left, left space plenty of space in opposite corners, which was how I solved where to place my photograph.

I took the piece of ‘Oasis’ paper from Crate Paper & fussy cut a selection of roses suitable to fill the corners. The clusters, decorated with chipboard stickers & wood accents add to the bright, exotic feel of the page. I love how keeping them snug against the corners grounds the design without it looking too busy.

Fussy cut butterflies from Chasing Dreams were exactly what I needed to decorate the wings of big cut file butterfly. Using the x2 different sizes add dimension & balance.

Life is a village... watch the video!

I love where we live! I love our old house & I love our beautiful wild lane on the mountain but most of all I love our neighbours! Over the last 3 years they have become more than neighbours to us, they are as close as family. So when I saw the adorable Crate paper houses patterned paper…I knew exactly what I wanted to capture on this layout. Admittedly it was a difficult page design to pull off, & I ended up fiddling & pushing things around a lot more than I usual do. Having so many specific things I wanted to add to it, made finding perfect tension between those elements challenging.

Join me & I’ll show you what I did.

Big Happy Village by Kim Watson 

Grabbing supplies from the Main August kit, the Project Life kit, the Paper add-on kit, theEmbellishment kit, & the Color Kit…I started by fussy cutting some rows of houses from the Crate Paper: Cheerful paper. The left over piece of paper, I flipped over, cleaned up the cut edge into loose scallops & used the woodgrain as the next layer. Next came a strip of Botanical Sparkle from Pink Fresh Studio, I finished off with an aqua sparkly sky from Pink Fresh.

The gold dot vellum from Studio Calico, made the most perfect clouds, which I attached with staples & lifted with pop dots. Chipboard sentiments, die-cut stars & stickers took them to the next level! Together with the starry paper, they made the cutest sky-scape.
Next came the layered title…a combination of foam alpha stickers , die-cuts from Craft Paper & puffy stickers. The mixture of elements is interesting and creates a great cluster left of my photo strips.
The photo strip has loads of dimension. I doubled the strip & layered with die-cuts, a journal card, chipboard elements & patterned paper creating a cluster that holds loads of visual appeal.
Next I positioned the fussy cut houses, attaching only the bottom edges of the strips, curling the roofs up a little to create height.
Lastly I added a little cluster on the bottom right hand side of the page. The red heart & black paper strip adding the last of my color pops, balancing out the visual triangles within the design. I am thrilled with this page. Not only does it hold a ton of sentiment for me but I am so happy with the final design. I hope you have found this page inspiring? Let's Celebrate Summer + new layout.

Hello friends! Happy Wednesday!

I have a new page to share with you today using the April Hip Kit & add-on kits. When designing it, I was inspired by vibrant SUMMER colors, & happy memories of our gorgeous teen on the beach.

Celebrate Summer with Friends by Kim Watson
When sorting through the pretty papers from the April kit, I fell in love with this piece from Webster’s Pagers, but wanted to use both sides. I really didn’t want to cut up x2 pieces of paper for one page, then had a brainwave…why not cut it on the diagonal & flip the one half over allowing me to get the best of both worlds by sticking it together back into a single piece of paper. 

Making the most of the fabulous printed chipboard accents…the double sheet from American Crafts is filled with great sentiments as well as tags, labels & other die-cuts.
I cut my photos into circles to compliment the happy circle vibe that suits the April Hip Kit & add-ons so well. Layering a B&W photo over a color photo, adds great visual interest to the layout. 
A metal circle die made the mini square card from Webster’s Papers, into a cool circle accent, the perfect addition to my embellishment cluster.

I love how the uber trendy wood veneer sentiment square from Heidi Swapp, gives emphasis to the sentiment card, as well as adds textural dimension to the page.
Come now…tell these alpha stickers & chipboard die-cuts from American Crafts aren’t awesome!!! The variety of fonts, substrates & colors…make for wonderful conversational titles like mine.

I love that there is not much thought needed when putting these pages together because Kimberly from Hip Kit Club solves the hard work by putting the perfect mix of papers, accents & embellishments together. These kits definitely take the angst out of product mixing..this April Hip Kit & add-on kits are a perfect example.
