Celebrating with Queen & Co! And a gift, just for you!

Hello Queen & Co friends, Kim here.
I am excited to share my latest project for Queen & Company. Inspired by the FABULOUS Pretty Presents kit, I decided to capture the happy moment of my little friend Callan getting ready to blow the candles out on her birthday cake. These dies, papers & toppers were tailor made for this page.
Hip-hip Hooray layout by Kim Watson
Using my Silhouette Cameo, I die-cut a pie chart, reason being is I wanted to use a pretty variety of patterned papers from the Pretty Presents 6x6 paper pad. The pie chart allowed me to use eight different pattern papers...the perfect way to create a colorful mat for my photo.
The sweet gift dies made the perfect accents for this page. To make them less busy on an already busy page, I made sure to make them mono tone in color: Pink, yellow, orange & green. To create the 'open me tag' I trimmed down one of the larger stamps.
The title is made up of a combination of three of the stamps that came in the Pretty Presents kit. By stamping them in different colors onto flag shapes, then attaching them to a striped drinking straw, I not only made a fun unique title but also a festive page accent.
Patterned paper circles folded in half and placed along the top of the page with turquoise bakers twine, not onto adds a ceiling to the page but really gives one the feeling of a celebration!
To make the page extra special I selected a mixture of pretty bling bits to co-ordinate with the patterned papers in each segment. The result is super fun, colorful & festive....Callan can't wait to have her page, in a frame, in her bedroom.
If you like cut files, I have a gift for you today.
Enjoy, for your personal use.  Go to our website HERE to download this fabulous FREE cut file!

Create an oversized DIY Fringe Butterfly accent!

As a subscriber you get the privilege of enjoying some fantastic exclusive cut files. This is one of them…The Fringed Butterfly. All I can say is WOW! The February 2017 kits are so, so pretty…the butterflies & the amazing colors, are what make this craft so much fun!
kimwatsonhappyhkc01(FOR A DETAILED STEP BY STEP ON HOW I PUT THIS CUT FILE TOGETHER, BE SURE TO WATCH MY PROCESS VIDEO; SEE BELOW.)
Starting with the cut file, but keeping in mind it would dominate a big portion of the layout, I started arranging things around the page. Tilting the butterfly to the left, left space plenty of space in opposite corners, which was how I solved where to place my photograph.kimwatsonhappyhkc02
I took the piece of ‘Oasis’ paper from Crate Paper & fussy cut a selection of roses suitable to fill the corners. The clusters, decorated with chipboard stickers & wood accents add to the bright, exotic feel of the page. I love how keeping them snug against the corners grounds the design without it looking too busy.
kimwatsonhappyhkc03
Fussy cut butterflies from Chasing Dreams were exactly what I needed to decorate the wings of big cut file butterfly. Using the x2 different sizes add dimension & balance.

I hope you have found this inspirational?  I had so fun creating it & I know you will too! Thank you so much for stopping by. Remember to grab our complimentary cut files to help you make the most of your kits.

Mixed Media Dream Catcher

Engaged by Kim Watson
_kimwatsonengagedhkc01
Hi friends…Kim here, with a new page using the January 2017 kits & one of the amazing free subscriber cut files designed by Jessica Fabiano, to commemorate my brother’s exciting engagement on 3rd February 2017. We are so looking forward to their up and coming wedding & I wanted to create a page that was super special. The mixture of cut files, and mixed media helped me achieve the perfect look.
kimwatsonengagedhkc02
I had fun with the base page by creating a lovely collage of gesso, texture paste, Shimmerz, watercolor & gold mist. Then by cutting the dream catcher file in white cardstock, as well as patterned paper, I was able to create a 3D drop shadow effect. By attaching only the frame, I left the feathers loose further adding fantastic dimension.
kimwatsonengagedhkc03
Taking x3 feather ephemera from the Pink Paislee pack in the main kit, I slipped them in between the x2 cut file layers adding some pops of color. The cool thick cork adds, interest & contrast scattered around the page, balancing out the soft colors.

Layered frames & a notelet create an interesting cluster, decorated with puffy stickers & butterflies are the perfect detail for the bottom left side of the page.
kimwatsonengagedhkc06
Wanting a bright title, I got a little messy with the canvas alphas found in the January 2017 January kit. I covered my process in my technique video…but basically it is layers of gesso, x2 shades of pink paint & Heidi Swapp gold mist. The effect is fantastic!!
I really hope you liked my page & idea. I hope you are inspired to create a similar design with your January kits. Remember if you are looking for a great crafty community, be sure to join the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum.
Happy crafting friends 🙂

Paper Pieced embellishments for Christmas layouts.

Hi friends...Kim Watson here. Can you believe it is the 4 days before Christmas?? I love ‪#‎Christmas‬ time...it has to be one of my most favorite times of the year. I love the message of hope & love that Christmas brings, I love our family traditions, I love that the celebration of this special time brings families all over the world together. Today my page is about exactly that. Remembering the Merry ‪#‎Memories‬ of being together.

Using the fabulous November kits & FREE ‪#‎cutfiles‬ from JustNick I created this page, papers are from "Oh What Fun" collection I designed for Hip Kits, embellishments are from Pinkfresh StudioBasicGreyMy Mind's Eye & Hip Kits Exclusives.

Do you know that with every monthly kit comes a FREE printable sheet of EXTRA's found under downloads on our website? Check them out at http://www.hipkitclub.net/november-2015-downloads
Merry Memories by Kim Watson

Cutting, snipping & layering circles made these flowers so easy to make. The red flower got x2 holly leaves to finish it off...& the gold flower, a circle of pleated gold washi tape. Both so different & perfect for my page.
With the Christmas spirit heavy in the air & jingle bells playing in just about every store you walk into…I am excited to share with you, another Christmas layout. For me, this page is a celebration of Christmas, & why this time of year is so special to me & my family!
Share the December Joy by Kim Watson

To start, I splattered some gorgeous metallic gold mist from Heidi Swapp, onto the white background mimicking falling snow. You can find it in the November Hip Kit Club color kit. Then using some of the Hip Kit Club free November cut files, designed by Ashley Horton, I cut out x4 large patterned paper trees. Pop dots in places, makes them nice & 3D.

So I encourage you to try your hand at paper piecing, it is an eye-catching & effective way to embellish those holiday themed pages.

Thanks for stopping by!

Pineapple mini book + FREE cut file.

With summer in the air & this weeks focus being on ‘Fancy Cuts’, I thought you, as loyal FP fans, might enjoy a FREE cut file & mini book idea.
Using the gorgeous Summer Sun collection, I created this Pineapple shaped mini book, I know you will love!

To create the cute pineapple shaped covers, I layered yellow & orange plain papers which can be found on the reverse sides of the Summer Sun patterned papers. I used the aqua papers for the leaves & cut pineapple slices in x2 sizes, layering them together with buttons for the decorative flower. Twine & a fewephemera complete the arrangement, with a title cut from another brag card.

The inside pages are brag cards inserted into a folded paper strip, concertina style. SEE my post here for a FULL TUTORIAL. Just add photos, simple embellishments & journaling.

Here are a few of the inside pages, to give you an idea of how less is more when designing these decorative kinds of mini albums. I still want to add a few journaling strips, but the simple embellishments, definitely keep the focus on the photographs.
